A VICTIM of a violent attack, who fears he may lose his hearing, has blasted the ‘scumbags’ who stabbed him in the face with a broken bottle.
Devoted dad Ashley Paylor said his ear was ‘hanging down towards his shoulder’ after the attack on Friday July 22 in which one of a gang of teens smashed the bottle over his head and stabbed him six times in the face just yards away from his home.
The 26-year-old, who has had 70 stitches and will be left with four or five permanent scars, told the Advertiser this week how he ‘dragged himself’ home after the attack at about 11pm to his girlfriend Rowena Prescott.
“She opened the door and started screaming at the sight of me,” he said.
“I dread to think what might have happened if we had both been walking home.”
The couple have a three-year-old daughter who came to see him in hospital where he was kept in for two nights.
“She’s not wanted anything to do with me – she saw me with my face a mess and hid away.
“My little girl’s my world so that’s been a real blow to me.”
The self-employed plasterer has been signed off on the sick for the next three weeks, leaving him without an income.
“When you’re self-employed no work means no money,” he said.
Last week Kirk Hallam councillors called for new CCTV cameras to help curb problems in the area – a move Ashley said he would welcome.
A 15-year-old boy and a 19-year-old man from Ilkeston were arrested and bailed last week pending further investigation. Insp Nick Daines at Ilkeston police station said he is ‘anticipating more arrests’ in connection with the attack.
