Charges over metal thefts

TWO men have been charged in connection with the theft of metal from an Ilkeston care home.

Nathan Harris, 26, of Ilkeston, and Jay Betts, 31, of no fixed address, were arrested after being stopped by police in a jitty close to the Haddon House Care Home in Lord Haddon Road on Saturday morning.

Officers received a call from neighbours at about 10.30am to say that they had seen two men reaching over the fence to remove metal guttering and lead from the roof of the home, which is currently being renovated.

Police said that the two men were ‘carrying metal and copper’ when they were arrested shortly afterwards.

The pair appeared before Derby Magistrates’ Court on Monday, both charged with theft.
