Hucknall armed siege ends with arrest of 20 year old man

An armed siege in Hucknall town centre came to an end almost 12 hours after it began.

At 1.40am today, armed officers entered the snooker hall where the man, believed to be armed, had been since around 2pm Friday.

The 20-year-old suspect was arrested and detained on suspicion of possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear or violence. He has been taken into police custody for questioning.

Police were called to Spot On Snooker Club, in Vine Terrace, at 2.20pm yesterday (Thursday 13th March) following a report of a man acting suspiciously.

Further enquiries led officers to believe he may have been in possession of a gun.

Police negotiators worked throughout the afternoon and evening before armed officers entered the premises at around 1.40am bringing the incident to an end.

Two women, who had been hiding in the building throughout, were guided to safety by officers at around 8.40pm. They were distressed by their ordeal but uninjured.

Vine Terrace and High Street are now open to traffic and pedestrians and residents are permitted to return to their homes. A cordon will remain at the snooker hall while the scene is examined.

Police would like to thank all those affected by the incident and the subsequent police operation for their patience and understanding.
