Man charged after break-in

A 23-year-old man has been charged with breaking in to a hairdressers in Ilkeston.

Brandon Draper, of Cotmanhay Road, was arrested in the early hours of Friday (October 18) after a witness called the police because of an alarm sounding at Hair Flare in Pelham Street.

Another man, also aged 23, from Ilkeston, was arrested and bailed pending further enquiries.

Coral bookmakers in Cotmanhay Road was also broken into on Friday night and had its safe stolen.

The break-in was reported at 8am on Friday morning.

There was an attempted burglary the same night at The Save The Children charity shop, also in Pelham Street.

The rear door to the charity shop was damaged but nothing was taken.

Police were called to the street, off Lower Bath Street, at about 4am when a witness reported two men fleeing the hairdressers.

Draper appeared at Derby Magistrates Court on Friday, where he was also charged with possession of a class B drug.

He has been remanded in custody.
