Detectives are appealing for witnesses after a man was hit on the back of the head before being kicked, punched and stamped on in Ilkeston.

At around 9.15pm on August 7, the 27-year-old victim and his girlfriend were walking along Ladywood Road when a group of youths began shouting at them.

The couple went into the petrol station where they met two friends and all four then left the petrol station and walked onto Goole Avenue.

The youths then re-appeared and approached the victim. One of them hit him on the back of the head with an object and he fell onto the floor. He was then kicked, punched and stamped on and suffered swelling and cuts to his face.
