Pair steals shopper’s bags

A SHOPPER from out of town had his bags stolen in Ilkeston Market Place while checking the bus timetable, police have said.

The 54-year-old man, from Long Eaton, had left his shopping bags at the entrance to the Co-op Department Store, while he checked the bus times at the stops in Wharnecliffe Road, by the Town Hall.

He turned around to see a young man on foot scoop up both the carrier bags, including one from B&M Bargains, followed by an accomplice on a push bike. The pair then fled in the direction of Bath Street.

The young man on foot was described as being ‘of large build’.

Anyone with information about the theft, which happened between 4.45pm and 5.30pm, on Saturday should call the police’s new non-emergency number 101.
