Police investigate spate of robberies in Long Eaton

A GANG fled after an attempted robbery in Long Eaton in which the intended victim fought back, headbutting one of the would-be robbers.

The 21-year-old from Ilkeston, was stood having a cigarette in Stanhope Street, Long Eaton, between 1.10pm and 1.30pm last Thursday when three men, one black, two white, approached him, demanding cash.

He refused and a tussle ensued in which the black male was headbutted.

In another incident, on Saturday, a 54-year-old woman was walking across West Park, near to the Thoresby Road entrance, when she was approached by three men, one of whom was carrying a knife, who demanded her mobile phone.

Scared, she handed over the Nokia and Motorola phones she was carrying. She described the men as white, two were about 5ft 7ins tall and one was 5ft 4ins, wearing dark clothing.

In a third incident, an 18-year-old was punched by one of two men aged about 20, who demanded money from him, at the junction of Tamworth Road and Hawthorne Avenue. He told them he did not have any and ran off down Hawthorne Avenue to a house nearby where he called police.
