Police launch new non-emergency number

DERBYSHIRE Police this week launched a new number to report problems which do not need an emergency response.

Residents should now dial 101 instead of the old 0345 123 33 33 number if they want to report crimes including car theft, damage to property or a minor traffic collision.

The number change is aimed at making it easier to report crime and disorder with every force using the same number by the end of 2011.

The 999 number is still only for use in an emergency when a crime is happening.

Other crimes, which should be reported on the new number include when residents suspect drug use or dealing, if they want to give information about crime in their area, to speak to local officers, or for general enquiries.
