ILKESTON police station is to have its opening hours slashed as the county’s force tries to save cash.
The station in Heanor Road will open from 9am to 5pm weekdays and close on weekends. It currently opens 9am to 8pm Monday to Friday, 10am to 4pm Saturday and 10am to 2pm Sunday.
The changes are due to come into force by June 2012.
Long Eaton Station, which opens 9am to 6pm weekdays and 10am to 4pm Saturday will also now open 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday.
The towns have escaped the worst of the cuts, expected to save Derbyshire police £500,000, with nine of the county’s 25 stations, including Heanor and Belper, closing completely.
The cuts were made after a review started in May 2010.
Asst Chf Con Dee Collins said: “It was a difficult choice but we had to weigh up carefully between retaining buildings or retaining officers.”
