A pair of sniffer dogs found more than £15,000 of illegal tobacco during raids in Ilkeston and Heanor.
More than 27,000 cigarettes and 13.65kg of counterfeit and illegal rolling tobacco were seized at a shop in Ilkeston, a private house and two shops in Heanor on Tuesday June 11.
The joint raids, carried out by Derbyshire County Council’s trading standards officers and police, are part of a countywide crackdown on the rising sale of illegal cigarettes.
All the goods seized had been hidden – with some found within false panelled cupboards and in car boots.
Following the raids five men and a woman were arrested and questioned.
They have now all been bailed pending further enquiries.
A shop worker, who was caught illegally selling foreign cigarettes from a Long Eaton shop, was fined nearly £800 last month.
