The 17-year-old man from Long Eaton is thought to have fallen from the bridge near the A52 at junction 25 at about 2am on Thursday (May 30) and was subsequently hit by a lorry pulling a white trailer.

Nottinghamshire police are still hunting for a the lorry driver, although they have said there are no suspicious circumstances.

A force spokesman said: “Were you driving a lorry on the M1 southbound in Nottinghamshire this morning (Thursday May 30)?”

Rush hour traffic was backed up on the southbound carriageway all the way from the junction at Sandiacre to beyond junction 26 at Nuthall all morning.
