The votes have been counted and we can reveal the winner of our pet of the year competition is Prince Puggly.
The competition, run in conjunction with Chambers’Pet Supplies in Bath Street, and John Booth Photography, saw hundreds of people enter their cherished pets in the hope of taking the crown.
Prince Pugley’s owner, Sasha Liffe, bought him almost a yea ago. She was delighted with the news.
In second place was dog Lucy, owned by Mark Powell, and in third place was Faith the dog.
Sasha, 18, from Hallam Fields, Ilkeston, said: “I didn’t expect it at all. I was screaming when I found out. I told all my family and friends to vote and then forgot to vote myself. Because there were so many pets entered I really didn’t expect it but it was definitely deserved - Prince Puggly is the best looking one.”
Sasha won two £50 vouchers to spend at Chambers’ Pet Supplies and John Booth Photography and a canvas of the winning picture, which takes pride and place above the fireplace at her home.
The popular competition saw 144 entries, with people queuing up to have their pets photograph taken.
Entrants included dogs, cats, rabbits, lizards, chickens and guinea pigs.
The second place winner received two £30 vouchers and a canvas .
The third place winner was awarded a canvas and two £20 vouchers.
This was the second time we have run the competition and, as ever, it proved a massive hit with readers and pet lovers.
Advertiser editor, Martin Huttton, said: “We had a great response to the Pet of the Year competition lots of cute and cuddly animals for people to choose from. We would like to thank everyone who took part and voted for the winners and hope pet lovers will come back next year to be in with a chance of winning.”
