Drivers urged to belt up

DRIVERS are being warned to belt up after a survey revealed that one in 20 drivers fails to wear their seat belt.

Derby and Derbyshire Road Safety Partnership issued chairman Mike Ashworth said: “You’re twice as likely to die in a crash if you don’t wear a seat belt – that’s why it’s alarming that some drivers still haven’t taken on board the ‘clunk-click every trip’ message.

“Many of those who hadn’t belted up were van and taxi drivers which is a big concern because they spend more time on the road and are therefore at greater risk.”
