STAPLEFORD’S George Spencer Academy has been praised in Parliament for its plan to change its admission policy to make children from forces’ families a priority.
Broxtowe MP Anna Soubry highlighted the school’s plan in Westminster when talking about the education for children of defence personnel who have been re-posted.
And the Government’s Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Defence Personnel, Welfare and Veterans, Andrew Robathan MP, congratulated the school on the move.
Miss Soubry said: “Members of the armed forces often have to move very quickly and with short notice, which can affect the education of their children, particular if it happens when school has already started.”
The new rules are set to come into force in 2013 with all forces’ children, and in particular those from Chetwynd Barracks, becoming a priority group for admission.
