An Awsworth teenager will take on an epic charity challenge by trekking the Great Wall of China.
Ellena Street, 18, is taking part in the six day fundraising challenge for Childreach International.
She signed up for it following a talk by the Students’ Union at the University of Derby where she is studying history and education.
Ellena will be part of a group that treks the ‘wild wall’ route, not the tourist route.
She said: “I thought ‘this is a new chapter in my life’, I wanted to meet new people and do something for charity, this is the ideal opportunity.”
She has been given a target of £2,750 by June , and an additional target of £700 by the end of January.
When she has reached her fundraising target, Ellena, will trek along the Great wall of China- from Bejing, which is the Huangyaguan section of the wall, all the way through the wilder parts of the wall.
She said: “I’m really looking forward to it. I would like to thank everyone who has pledged money.
“Childreach an absolutely fantastic job of raising money in order to improve the living standards of children both in the UK and overseas in countries such as Tanzania.”
