A photo of a gaggle of geese is the latest entry into the Ilkeston Advertiser and Specsavers Life Thru The Lens photographic competition.

The picture was taken on a farm track on the edge of Stanley Common by Laurence Ramsey while he was out walking.

He said: “ They decided to gang up on me and I caught their attack on my mobile phone.”

There is still chance for you to take up the challenge of the competition and get your entries sent in to us.

This is the second time we have run the contest in conjunction with Specsavers of Bath Street, Ilkeston.

And once again the optician’s is offering a top digital camera, worth hundreds of pounds, as the top prize.

Now all that is left is for you to take a look at our rules (SEE RIGHT) and then grab your camera or smartphone and get out and about in the area to take your snaps.

The subject you choose is up to you but it must have a clear link to Ilkeston or the local area.

It could be an image that captures our industrial past, a shot of an eye catching green space, local wildlife or even a local sporting occasion.

The only real limit is your ambition and imagination.

The next step is to email or post your entry to us with certain details.

The competition will run for several months to allow you to take advantage of the changing seasons and there are no age restrictions.

We will also showcase some of your entries each week in the paper and online.

Once we close the entries a team of judges will sift through all the brilliant photographs and narrow them down to ten finalists before deciding on the winner.

There will then be a presentation night at the Specsavers store where all the finalists’ images will be exhibited.

Ilkeston Specsavers director Krishna Parmar said: “There were some stunning photos entered last year and I can’t wait to see what people come up with this time around.”

Email your entries to news@ilkestonadvertiser.co.uk or post them to Specsavers Life Thru The Lens, Ilkeston Advertiser, 8 Heanor Road, Ilkeston DE7 8ER.

If emailing your photograph, it must be attached in jpeg format as a separate attachment and the email must say Life Thru The Lens in the subject field.

For postal entries, the envelope must be marked as Specsavers Life Thru The Lens.

Photographs must have been taken within the last year and the competition is limited to TWO entries per person..

Details that must be included with each entry are:

Where and when each photograph was taken;

The photographer’s FULL name, age and FULL postal address;

And day and evening contact telephone numbers.

No computer-manipulated images will be accepcted and photographs must be your own work. Entries are copyright of the Ilkeston Advertiser.

The finalists and winner will be chosen by a panel of judges and their decision is final. Usual competition rules apply
