Erewash MP Maggie Throup has been appointed as the Parliamentary Private Secretary to ministers in the Department of Health and Social Care.

Maggie, who was first elected in 2015, previously served as a member of the Health Select Committee and has worked in or with the NHS since leaving university.

She said: “I am honoured to have received this appointment. There is almost no bigger issue in politics than the NHS.

“I am committed to working hard and ensuring that the link between this critical department and parliamentarians is as effective as possible.”

She added: “For some time now I have been calling for the integration of social care into the Department for Health so I am delighted to be part of this new combined team.

“This is clearly an important period for our NHS and broader health and social care issues. I look forward to doing what I can to support the ministerial team, whilst continuing to work hard for the people of Erewash as their MP.”
