An Ilkeston schoolgirl has told the Advertiser she can’t wait to show off a letter from the Queen when she goes back to school this week.
Evie Draper, wrote to Her Majesty to congratualte her on her Diamond Jubilee after watching the celebrations on TV.
Eight-year-old Evie said: “I really enjoyed all of the celebrations and I thought that the Queen looked really nice at all of the events.
“I said to my mum that I wanted to send her a letter to say congratulations on being the Queen for so long.
“I wrote to her and drew a picture of Buckingham Palace and one of her corgis and sent that too.”
After posting the letter Evie set about enjoying her summer holidays then last week a special envelope dropped through her letterbox.
She said: “I was so happy when I saw the letter.
“I opened it up and there were some pictures of the Queen on both sides. She thanked me for my letter and signed it.”
After Evie, a pupil at St Thomas RC School, was over the shock she started telling ehr friends and family.
She added: “Everyone I told was amazed.
“They couldn’t believe that the Queen had written me a letter.
“I can’t wait to take it in and show it to everyone at school.”
