Police have stepped up patrols at a business park off Awsworth Road in Ilkeston after a spate of diesel thefts from vehicles.

In the latest incident last week, some 300 litres of fuel was siphoned from a lorry - with a similar theft a fortnight before.

Mick Taylor, who runs one of several transport companies based at the site, said he had also had to pay for extra security, including patrols with dogs, CCTV and new movement sensors.

Mick said: “None of the businesses on these premises are high profit, we all work very hard so it’s hard to have to keep paying out.

“The police have been doing extra patrols, which always helps, but they can’t do that all the time. We have done everything they have asked us to avoid being hit again.”

The business park experienced a spate of similar incidents around two years ago and is regularly hit with thefts amounting to £30 to £40. The latest raids have involved much larger sums.
