The chairman of Derbyshire Police Federation has spoken out against the ‘sick joke’ made by Cllr David Stephenson this week.
Mark Pickard said he has been dealing with the complaint against the Erewash borough councillor since it was made by Sgt Jason Farrar, of Nottinghamshire police on Thursday.
He said Sgt Farrar was ‘aghast’ at the words Cllr Stephenson used in his joke about points scored for the deaths of two officers.
In view of the tragic circumstances of the two female police officers being murdered in Greater Manchester, it was highly insensitive for him to make the comments he did.
“And he showed a total dismissal of the officer.”
He added, referring to the incident in which Tory Chief Whip Andrew Mitchell allegedly called an officer a pleb last week: “He has just shown himself to be totally stupid and making totally unacceptable comments which place him alongside Mitchell.”
He praised council leader Cllr Chris Corbett for ‘acting swiftly’ to sack Cllr Stephenson from his position on the council executive and ban him from standing as a candidate ever again.
