phase one of the £2.3m revamp of Victoria Park Leisure Centre was revealed on Friday.
A new café and reception area and improvements to the teaching pool were made under phase one and a start has been made on new changing rooms.
The second phase of the development will see the unisex village-style changing rooms completed as well as improvements to the main pool and splash pool.
Erewash MP Jessica Lee cut the ribbon to mark completion of the first stage this week.
A spokesman for Erewash Borough Council said: “Victoria Park Leisure Centre facilities are much valued by the local community, supporting initiatives and encouraging the public, local groups and schools to adopt a healthy and active lifestyle.
“A key action for the council is to increase the physical activity levels across all generations and increase the number of positive activities for young people.
“The significant investment made in the modernisation of Victoria Park Leisure Centre will help provide a first class leisure facility for the people of Ilkeston and the wider population of Erewash.”
During phase two of the development the main pool and the splash pool will be closed but the teaching pool is now open.
The centre will then be totally closed from October 10 to October 16 to put the finishing touches to the revamp ready for a grand reopening scheduled for Monday October 17. Timetables and other information can be found at erewash.gov.uk.
