Pensioners in Stanton-By-Dale were given a Christmas they won’t forget, thanks to kind hearted people in the village.
Senior citizens in Stanton-By-Dale were treated to a free of charge three-course meal and fun afternoon by their local pub, The Stanhope Arms, and the village social committee.
Staff at the pub prepared a special three course meal for around 42 older people on Saturday.
The meal was served up at Stanton-By-Dale Village Hall, which is directly opposite the Stanhope Arms.
Guests were greeted with a glass of sherry before being seated for their meal, which was be served by members of the Parish Social Committee. Other events included a raffle and an appearance from Santa.
Licensee of the Stanhope Arms, Dave Owens, said: “Christmas time is all about giving and having fun which is exactly what we aim to do. It’s really nice to be involved in helping out the community too, something which is very important to us.
“I also want to thank all of our customers for taking part in a number of fundraising activities throughout the year and their generosity – without them the Stanhope Arms could not fund an event like this.
“The chefs from the Stanhope Arms prepared a four course meal which was served by the ladies of the social committee in the village hall.
“After dinner all of the guests received a small surprise from Santa to round off what was a very successful afternoon.”
