ONE of the few historic house museums in the UK lit by real gas lights will open its doors for an evening of special museum tours next week.
The DH Lawrence Birthplace Museum in Eastwood will showcase the historic site’s authentic lighting, which has just been installed, next Wednesday April 11.
In his novel Sons and Lovers, DH Lawrence mentions gas lighting several times and the new lighting gives the house a sense of ambience, as well as a realistic setting.
Timed tours will be available at the Birthplace Museum at 5.45pm and 6.45pm. Booking is advised as places are limited.
DH Lawrence was born at the museum property in Victoria Street. The event is one of over 100 events and exhibitions taking place this year.
