AN ILKESTON pair are celebrating 50 years of marriage today.
Jean and Arthur Wharton, of Manor Road, are marking the occasion with a gathering on Saturday.
The couple agree that the secret to a long lasting marriage is tolerance.
Remembering the wedding day Jean, 75, said: “It was a really foggy day and we didn’t get many photos.
“My brother had volunteered to be photographer and dropped the camera and damaged the film so the few we do have are really special.
“We’re always doing things together and spend a lot of time together, you’ve got to keep the love together.
“You have to think about one another all the time.”
Arthur, 72, said: “Everyone has their ups and downs, I don’t believe people that say they don’t argue.
“That’s all part of it, as long as you make up then things are alright.”
The pair have a son Stephen, 46, and two grandsons, Samuel, 18, and Matthew, 16.
They will be joined by friends and family at the Adam Street Church of Christ on Saturday to celebrate.
