PEOPLE in Eastwood are being urged to get their applications in to receive some of the £33,000 that has been awarded to the town to improve the local environment and community.
The Government has awarded the Eastwood South ward £33,910 and people looking to set up new projects in the area, or do work to improve the environment, can apply for anything between £250 and £2,500. The pot of money is being managed by a panel of councillors, teachers and residents called Community First.
Group member Josie Forrest said: “It’s for groups that are looking at putting something into the community. Something that would improve people’s quality of life.”
The board was criticised last week by Cllr Charlie Robb on the Advertiser letters page for being politically led.
But members hit back this week saying they were a non-political body who just wanted to do what was right for the town.
