County gets new health watchdog

A new watchdog group to champion patients’ interests has been set up in Derbyshire.

Healthwatch Derbyshire (HWD) is the new independent consumer champion for health and social care which has just been launched.

The new independent body focuses on gathering the views of people of all ages, then feeding them to those responsible for the design and delivery of services, letting them know what they are doing well and where there is room for improvement.

The organisation does not act on specific individual issues, but offers a signposting service and provides advice and information.

Amber Valley Mayor, councillor John Nelson, said: “I welcome this new organisation as a means by which the views of borough residents will be heard. I trust it will lead to all people being treated with dignity and respect and their concerns taken seriously by the health and social care sectors.”
