HS2 goes full steam ahead

A CONTROVERSIAL plan to build a high speed rail link, which could pass right through the Erewash countryside, has been given the go-ahead by the Government.

Work is set to be finished on the £32bn HS2 link from London to Birmingham by 2026.

Two more lines to Manchester and Leeds would be finished by 2033, which could pass through the Erewash valley without stopping anywhere in Derbyshire.

Transport Secretary Justine Greening this week called HS2 ‘the most significant transport infrastructure project since the building of the motorways’.
