The man charged with the murder of Ilkeston woman Angela Ward, has appeared at court this week.

Ian Meakin, 48, of Critchley Street, Ilkeston, attended Nottingham Crown Court for a preliminary hearing on Tuesday.

He has been remanded in custody to attend a plea and directions hearing in August.

A provisional trial date has been arranged for November 10.

It is scheduled to last for two weeks.

Meakin is accused of killing 27-year-old Angela, also of Critchley Street.

Police were called to the flats on Sunday May 7, where Miss Ward was found injured.

She was taken to hospital and died a short time later.

Tributes were paid to Angela following her death.

A family statement said: “To our much-loved daughter Angela, who will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.

“Never forgotten, you were taken too soon from us.”
