Ilkeston will officially get into the festive spirit tonight when the town's Christmas lights are switched on.
The event is one of the most popular dates of the year and as well as the big switch-on there will be seasonal sights a-plenty - including fairground fun and festive songs and a visit from Santa himself.
The celebration event will take place between 5.30-8.30pm in the town centre, with mayor Councillor Chris Corbett switching on the lights at 7pm.
There will also be performances from Ilkeston Brass Band and singer Trevvy. A Christmas market organised by SSAFA, the Armed Forces Charity, will also add to the festive atmosphere.
Councillor Mike Wallis, Erewash Borough Council’s lead member for culture and leisure, said: “The 2018 Christmas countdown is well underway, and this event is a firm festive favourite. It’s a great evening of music, lights and entertainment for all ages that brings the town together in a magical celebration.”
