An Ilkeston teenager who won a competition to become the face of JD Sports has been signed by a modelling agency.

Jake Walker, 19, from Shipley View, has just been signed by Industry People.

He has now left college, where he was studying music, to pursue a career in modelling.

He entered the JD Sports ‘Face of the Year 2014’ competition on Facebook as a joke but went on to beat competition from 10,000 contestants .

His contract with them finishes in April and he recently did a shoot for them in Manchester.

His face also appeared on their Christmas bag.

Now his life involves going up and down the country to castings, including one earlier this week for an outdoor wear company.

He said: “I had to fill out a form with my measurements, then they call you through and take pictures of you in their clothes. They say they will let you know in a week or two.”

There are around 100 models at each casting, meaning there is some tough competition.

Jake said: “I get nervous but I’m doing my bit. Everyone there had beards and was six foot tall so it’s more of a challenge for me.”

Jake, who is a music lover and has previously auditioned for the X Factor, has high hopes for the future. He said: “The travel side of it is a big thing for me. I am looking forward to going to places such as America. I want to pursue a singing career and have applied for the X Factor again.

“I would love to model for any of the big names, Hugo Boss and all of those. It takes time to get your name out there.”
