Ilkeston runner dies after collapsing during race

An Ilkeston man has died after collapsing while taking part in a fell race in the Lake District.

Emergency services were called to Fairfield Horsehoe after 42-year-old Darren Holloway collapsed whilst competing in the Ian Hodgson fell race in Patterdale yesterday.

Doctors and staff involved in the mountain relay race provided emergency care and Mr Holloway was flown to Furness General Hospital by air ambulance but medics were unable to save him.

The case has been passed to the coroner.
