Tributes have been paid to the president of the Rotary Club of Ilkeston who has died.

Carolyn Anne Stone, 65, the first female rotarian in Ilkeston, died on January 3 following a illness.

A statement from the rotary club said: “It is with great sadness that the Rotary Club of Ilkeston announces the death of their president Carolyn Stone.

“Carolyn became the first lady rotarian in Ilkeston in 2006 and brought with her an organisation, drive and determination which saw her take up several offices within the club and become our first lady president in the year 2009-2010.

“Being so successful in her work with the club, Carolyn was recruited into posts within the District 1220 organisation, mainly working with young people in young musician and young chef competitions.

“Carolyn withdrew from district work to enable her to enjoy the year working with the members of the club to raise money for various charities both locally and internationally.”

Club members say they will see through her ‘aims’ and ‘objections’.

Carolyn lived in Awsworth from 1971 before moving to Ilkeston in around 1980.
