A 16–year–old singer is putting her tonsils to the test as part of a music competition.

Georgina Atkins, of Ilkeston, is one of just 11 acts to make it through to The Big Music Project Competition regional final in Nottingham.

The contest, powered by Next BRIT Thing, is funded by The Big Lottery Fund and aims to provide future generations of musicians with the chance to learn first-hand from the music business and take steps towards a career in the music industry.

The aspiring musician will perform at The Beckett School on Friday, November 21, for industry professionals who will be tasked with selecting the most talented artists from more than 100 acts across the whole of the UK.

All finalists will be vying for a spot in the national final, taking place in London during the BRITs week in 2015 in the lead up to one of The BRIT Awards.
