The ladies of Ilkeston WI enjoyed a talk from ‘Bob the Biker’ at their last meeting. Bob is the co-ordinator of a team of volunteer bikers who transport blood and other vital medicines for hospitals in the East Midlands to wherever needed around the country. The team is on call 24/7 and is primarily manned by retirees. The scheme is funded entirely from donations from the public and so saves the NHS thousands of pounds. A collection on the night raised more than £60.
