An Indian restaurant in Ilkeston that was told to make improvements to its hygiene standards at the start of the year has now been awarded four stars.
Shah Jahan on Awsworth Road was visited by a hygiene inspector from Erewash Borough Council earlier this month.
They have now been awarded a rating of four stars out of five. It follows a rating of just one back in January.
Shanwaz Azid, owner, said the low rating was due to a busy night. A number of improvements have been made over the last few months including a new kitchen.
He said: “Our food has never been an issue.
“We have since had a fully refurbished kitchen nand ventilation system in the cellar. We have complied with all the requirements following the previous inspection.
“We have a new management team and everything is spot checked.
“Our customers are number one and the quality of our food is second to none.”
His father started the business 30 years ago and passed it on to his sons.
The restaurant has been a successful business since then and prides itself on its Balti dishes and mixed grills.
Me Azid added: “We always get good reviews, people travel from miles to come to our restaurant. I can assure people that our food is always excellent.
“We have been going strong for many years.”
