An inquest has been opened into the death of a Long Eaton travel agent whose body was found outside her own home.

Kathryn Jean Smith, 55, of Kirkdale Gardens, was declared dead at the scene by ambulance staff who were called out at 3.43pm on Friday July 1.

Police said Mrs Smith’s Peugeot 3008 had collided with a stationary Kia, but it is not yet clear whether this was a factor in her death.

The inquest heard her husband, David Smith, formally identified her body at the scene.

Dr Atwal of the Royal Derby Hospital conducted a post-mortem investigation and is awaiting the outcome of further tests before confirming a cause of death.

The inquest was adjourned until November 3.
