An Ilkeston mum and daughter are tasting success after their home-based venture has expanded into bigger premises.

Can’t Resist Cakes started off at Jan and Kerryann Hobbs’s home in Archer Street in 2011, where they made cupcakes for sale at Saturday markets.

Since then the pair have moved in to a unit on the Ropewalk Industrial Estate, where they have been able to expand their repertoire to include bespoke cakes for all occasions .

But at the same time they are providing something fun for the community with the Can’t Resist Bake Club for kids every Saturday morning.

Children can learn about all aspects of baking via weekly two-hour sessions.

“ The kids love it,” said Jan, 59. “They all make friends and have a great time –it gets a bit raucous sometimes!”

“Some mums haven’t got the time or the baking skills these days, so it’s a great way of teaching kids something new and giving parents a break at the weekend.”

The pair also plan to start adult baking and cake decorating classes.

Kerryann, 39, explained that from their humble beginnings the firm is now supplying top notch eateries around the region, including Fresh Basil deli in Belper.

“Wendy the proprietor has informed us that the cakes are going down a storm and many of her customers are returning for our cakes,” she said.

The two firms are joining forces soon, she said, to offer wedding and party packages.
