More than 200 runners of all ages, including many from Ilkeston, took part in this year’s Erewash 5k race.

Josh Green was first to finish in a time of 18 minutes and 26 seconds at West Park, Long Eaton. In second and third were Wai Hong Shin (18.53) and Paul Simmons (19:00).

The first female over the line was Jodie Smith in 21:50 with Lucy Galbraith (23:07) and Keren Turner (23:23) in second and third place.

Cllr Mike Wallis, lead member for sport and leisure services at Erewash Borough Council, presented medals and helped give out water. He said: “It’s been absolutely superb. Thanks to everyone who took part and all the volunteers as well as Jog Derbyshire, who organised it brilliantly with the Sports Development Team from Erewash Borough Council.

“I think a lot of people have already booked their places to come back next year! It was wonderful to see young kids taking part with their parents and grandparents.”

Maggie Throup, Conservative Parliamentary candidate for Erewash, joined the race and raised cash for homelessness charity the Canaan Trust.

She said: “Despite walking many miles delivering leaflets and canvassing, I’d never run the distance before so I was determined to make it round without walking, which I did.”
