KFC wins appeal over sign

ILKESTON’s newest fast food restaurant has won an appeal to display a six-metre high illuminated sign.

Erewash Borough Council turned down KFC’s plan for the sign in February on the grounds that it ‘would appear excessively large and incongruous’.

But the planning inspector said it would be lower and narrower than a nearby Tesco pylon sign.

The inspector also pointed out that the drive-thru in Rutland Street had already had signs approved around the building.

A report due to be go before the authority’s planning committee on Wednesday reads: “The inspector concluded that the 6m sign would be acceptable in terms of its visual impact.”
