Lace workers wanted for film

Former lace workers of Ilkeston are being sought for a documentary.

Video production company Toadstool Media have been commissioned by Erewash Art Program to make a documentary based on the ‘lace age’. Sam Wheatley and three colleagues are currently carrying out research with a view to shooting the documentary towards the end of August.

Sam said: “The core of our documentary is to focus on the memories people have, so we want to talk to people about their experiences of the lace industry - whether they work in it, worked in it, if their families did. Where they involved in the transport? Machine maintenance? Anything and everything we want to talk to people.”

A series of coffee meetings will be held were people can go along and share their memories.

He added: “At this stage people don’t need to worry about being on film as we just want to get a picture together and then we’ll approach people about being filmed.
