Firefighters put out a fire which could be seen from the M1.
The 'large' bonfire which could be seen for miles was off Cossall Road in Trowell.
The fire took place at about 6.10pm on Thursday, February 22.
A Derbyshire and Fire Rescue Service spokesman said: "Crews attended one large bonfire on open ground. This was controlled burning.
"The team were allowed to extinguish and the occupier was there keeping an eye on it.
"It could be seen from the M1 motorway so it would have been quite prominent."
Nobody is believed to have been injured.
Pictures of the fire were posted on the Spotted Ilkeston Town Facebook page.
One person commented at the time: "We drove near it its massive! Was about to ring 999 but fire engine just turned up. Hope everyone is okay"
Another person commented saying: "That's why it smells like bonfire then."
