THE ILKESTON branch of the Royal British Legion is celebrating 90 years in the town with a birthday church service this weekend.
Pupils from Chaucer Junior School choir will be singing songs to help members celebrate at St Mary’s Church on Saturday.
Ilkeston Brass will be playing military songs but, according to band secretary Yvonne Wareing, it will be more of a birthday celebration than a remembrance service.
The Ilkeston branch was formed in 1921, just weeks after the organisation started nationally.
The concert starts at 7.30pm on Saturday at the Market Place church, and ends at 9.30pm. Tickets are £4, including refreshments.
