Man appears at court on shoplifting charges

Police arrested a man on suspicion of shoplifting after staff at a Bath Street shop reported the alleged theft over the town’s RadioLink scheme.

Staff at Peacocks contacted police to report that items had allegedly been stolen.

Officers from Ilkeston Town and Kirk Hallam Safer Neighbourhood Teams found a man matching the description given walking along the Erewash Canal towpath off Awsworth Road.

The alleged offence took place at about 3.25pm on Monday February 24.

Mark Colton, 32, of Victoria Street, Ilkeston, has since been charged with shoplifting offences.

He was remanded in custody and was due to appear at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, February 25.
