Man charged with murder in Ilkeston

A 23-year-old man has been charged with murder and attempted murder following the death of a man in Cotmanhay.

Santino Giovanni Genovese, of Charlotte Street, Ilkeston, was arrested at the scene. He has now been charged with one count of murder and one count of attempted murder.

Two men were found with serious injuries at a property in Charlotte Street at about 5.40am on Thursday, September 11.

One of the men was pronounced dead at the scene. He was enamed by police as Paul Averill, aged 30 (pictured).

The second man remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Genovese was remanded in custody and was due to appear at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates’ Court today, Saturday, September 13.
