Man in court charged with murder in Ilkeston

A man has appeared in court charged with murder following the death of a man in Ilkeston.

Santino Giovanni Genovese, 23, appeared at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates’ Court on Saturday morning. He only spoke to confirm his name, address and date of birth.

Genovase, of Charlotte Street, Cotmanhay, has been charged with one count of murder and one count of attempted murder.

He appeared in court after emergency services were called to a flat in Charlotte Street at about 5.40am on Thursday. Paul Averill (pictured), 30, was pronounced dead at the scene and another man remains in a serious but stable condition in Nottingham City Hospital.

Genovese was remanded in custody to appear at Nottingham Crown Court tomorrow.
