A man who tried to import drugs from China has been jailed for two years.

John Burke was arrested in November when Border Force officers intercepted a parcel at East Midlands Airport which was addressed to him, finding it to contain white powder.

It was analysed and found to contain cathinone derivative, a class B drug.

Burke, 42, of Mill Acre Close, Ilkeston was sentenced to 21 months for fraudulently evading duty and three months for breaching a suspended sentence previously imposed for possessing drugs with intent to supply in 2013.

No separate penalty was imposed for possessing cathinone derivative.

He was sentenced at Derby Crown Court on Friday, June 10, following guilty pleas.
