An Ilkeston woman aims to raise hundreds of pounds for two heart charities by taking part in the Derby 10k run on Sunday.
Maria Scaife, 35, of Hillingdon Drive will split the money she raises between the British Heart Foundation and Derby based charity Take Heart.
Maria’s mother-in-law, Dorothy Stevens, 65, from Allestree, and uncle, John Gutteridge, 59, from Oakwood, have both had heart valve surgery within the last two years. Her dad, John Stevens, 59, from Ilkeston suffered a heart attack in 2011 and now lives with angina.
Maria said: “I chose to support the BHF because of the fantastic research they undertake to help families, like mine, affected by the devastating effects of coronary heart disease.
“Take Heart is a brilliant heart support group for heart patients, their families and carers. My mother-in-law is a member and I’m looking forward to meeting them once I have completed my fundraising.”
Maria will be cheered on by her family, including husband Paul. She hopes to complete the event in 65 minutes. Last year she finished in 70 minutes when she raised money for a breast cancer charity.
