OPPONENTS to the plan to create a huge opencast mine in greenbelt near Trowell, Cossall and Awsworth are hoping to gather more support at a public meeting tomorrow night (Friday).
More than 100 people attended a previous meeting in Trowell Parish Hall earlier this month,
Now Broxtowe MP Anna Soubry is calling on villagers in Awsworth to unite against UK Coal’s plan for a 325-acre mine at Shortwood Farm at the meeting at Awsworth Parish Hall at 7pm.
She urged residents to write to Nottinghamshire County Council, addressing concerns about dust, noise, traffic and the loss of treasured greenbelt land.
She has also applied for a debate on the plan in Parliament.
“It’s appalling for the environment, the health of residents and will add yet more congestion to roads already unable to cope with the traffic flow,” she said.
