Meeting was a ‘shambles’

What a shambles of a meeting it was that took place at Long Eaton Town Hall concerning the proposed Morrison’s superstore.

Refusal for development was advised by full time professional planning officers and then was voted through ignoring their advice by the planning committee.

This was probably the most important decision taken by councillors for years and will affect the town for the next 50 years.

What our great Victorian and Edwardian forefathers who provided Ilkeston with sewage and water systems, gas, public transport, cemeteries and many other amenities which benefitted the district will think I don’t know.

I just hope the Co-op food store, the town’s butchers, fruit store and others survive the decisions.

They were certainly let down by the spokesperson for the Chamber of Commerce who supported the building of Morrison’s.
