Extra bus services, including ones that run until the early hours of the morning at weekends, have been introduced in Ilkeston as part of a £2million investment.
The two bus service to Nottingham and Cotmanhay have two extra buses following investment by Trentbarton which sees the two running up to every ten minutes.
Increasing the size of the two fleet to 11 buses and boosting the service’s frequency have also created jobs for six new drivers.
Tom Morgan, director of service delivery at trentbarton, said: “We can confidently invest in the two because we know the demand is there from customers who enjoy having a fast, frequent and comfortable service.”
Late night services will run until 3.15am on Friday and Saturday nights for people wanting to return from a night out and for workers on late shifts.
Tom said: “This is a major route for all kinds of customers, including workers, shoppers and people enjoying an evening out. So the increased frequency will really appeal, as will the continued running of buses into the early hours at weekends.
“Despite this major investment by Trentbarton there is absolutely no fare increases and our customers will continue to be looked after by the friendliest bus drivers in the country.”
The new buses have superfast and free 4G wifi and will soon have USB charging points for passengers’ phones, tablets and laptops.
The buses also include buggy and wheelchair zones, low floor access and next stop audio and visual announcements.
